Here is an analysis of the archetypes of the quest that can be found in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.
A Synopsis of the Quest Archetypes in SpongeBobSquarePantsThe hero, Spongebob Squarepants, and his loyal companion, Patrick, are two goofballs who don’t believe they are man enough for anything. When the crown of King Neptune, the evil figure ultimately good, is stolen. The blame for it is all pointing at Mr. Krabs and if not returned on time he will die. The community will be threatened by Spongebob’s nemesis, Plankton, who was the person behind the stolen crown. The crown is said to be at “Shell City”, the center of the abyss, where no one has gone and made it out alive. To step up and prove they are men, Spongebob Squarepants and Patrick step up and try to retrieve the stolen crown.
Spongebob Squarepants and Patrick are first treated when their platonic ideal and supernatural aid, Mindy, tells them she has “mermaid magic” and can turn them into men. Finally beginning their quest, they cross the threshold of departure, the gas station. Their trials begin when they have to retrieve their spatula key from the bar. Once retrieved, they have to cross the trench where no fish has ever dared to cross. That is when the internal/external conflict occurs. They doubt themselves again after they realize that it would be suicide for them to cross it. After being pept talked into crossing it again, they go through it and then deal with. |
